The availability and use of Ora products in conjunction with an approved database of manufacturing formulations will ensure nationwide standardisation of extemporaneously prepared oral liquids. This is to be commended. We also support the availability of an electronic website of these formulations and request that this is easily accessible for pharmacists. It is also noted that the website will require regular updating and we consider it essential that the paediatric pharmacists and paediatricians on the Pharmacist and Therapeutics SIG are consulted regarding on-going matters with the maintenance of the website. We can be contacted through the Paediatric Society, by SIG Telepaediatric meetings or individually. This proposal has the potential to improve the access and quality of oral liquid medicines for New Zealand children and we acknowledge PHARMACs role in this. We would however suggest an audit process is set in place for the usage of the Ora products.
