The Paediatric Society of New Zealand endorses the fact sheet developed by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians supporting fluoridation of the water supply

20/09/2013

The Paediatric Society of New Zealand endorses the fact sheet developed by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians supporting fluoridation of the water supply. Fluoride is a safe and effective public health measure and prevents children from developing tooth decay. Poor dental health is more common in children who are disadvantaged. The burden of pain and ill health as a result of poor dental health falls disproportionately on this group of children who are disadvantaged through no fault of their own.

The Paediatric Society of New Zealand looks forward to the day when all public water supplies in New Zealand are fluoridated. We accept that some consumers may wish to drink water that is not fluoridated and we note that they have a number of options for arranging alternative drinking water supplies for their personal use.

The fact sheet is available on the RACP website: www.racp.edu.au/page/paed-policy
