Neurodevelopment Network - Lunch & Learn NZ Series [10th March]

Added 4th March 2026

1 March 2026

Join the Neurodevelopment Clinical Network for a Knowledge Translation session presented by Jane Hamer, Paediatric Physiotherapist and Clinical Leader of Paediatric Physiotherapy for Te Whatu Ora Waitematā.

  • Date: Tuesday 10 March 2026
  • Time: 12:00pm – 12:30pm
  • Format: Online via Microsoft Teams

In this session, Jane shares key insights and practical tips from her attendance at a Parent Carer Trauma Masterclass. Building on her February presentation, this session will provide space to reflect together on how we translate knowledge into practice within our own clinical contexts.

Discussion questions to prepare:

  • What service processes in your workplace contribute to ongoing 'small t' trauma for parents, and what changes could you make or advocate for to reduce unnecessary service trauma?
  • What have you done, or think you need to do, to support your own wellbeing and manage the impact of vicarious trauma?
  • Spend at least 30 minutes exploring the HealthCare Toolbox website before the session, and come ready to share: your 'aha' learning; what you shared with a colleague or manager; and what you've tried or implemented in your work with children and their parent carers.

About the presenter

Jane Hamer is a paediatric physiotherapist and Clinical Leader of Physiotherapy in the Child, Women and Family Division at Te Whatu Ora Waitematā. She completed her MHSc through the University of Otago and published research exploring caregivers' experiences of implementing sleep systems for children with complex neurodisability in POTP Journal (March 2025). Jane's work with families has highlighted the importance of support, partnership, and wellbeing for those shouldering significant care responsibilities. She describes herself as a curious novice in trauma-informed care, sharing her learning in the hope that clinicians can create more psychologically safe environments for the families they work with.
