Great to see PSNZ member and Project Coordinator for the General Paediatrics Network, Julie Cullen, on Seven Sharp tonight, talking about her research into digital technology use in schools. This is the same research behind the PSNZ-endorsed recommendations which now underpin the Ministry of Education's new guidelines for schools and kura.
Ōmata School in New Plymouth recently made headlines after trialling removing iPads for its junior classes, with principal Karen Brisco citing concerns about how screens affect young, developing minds - concerns that echo what Julie's work has been highlighting. It's a great real-world example of schools putting evidence-based guidance into practice for the particular needs of their students.
